Todd Beer Speaks about Climate Justice through a Gendered Lens

Todd Beer is a sociology professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, but he's also the author of two books on women and climate change: Climate Justice and Health in a Gendered World: Responsibilities, Risks, and Response and Insecurity in a Warming World: Gendered Responses to Climate Change.

In his talk at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago on Tuesday, Beer will look at how women have been affected by climate change and what they can do to address it, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"I hope you can carry this lens with you to examine the climate crises that emerge throughout your life and career," Beer says.

"Additionally, I will introduce two frameworks that examine gendered responses that hinder the speed and magnitude of the necessary transition away from fossil fuels."

In his talk, Beer will look at how women have been affected by climate change in different ways around the world, including in the US, where he says they've been forced to move from coal- and oil-fired power plants to renewable energy sources, and how they've been affected by the effects of climate change on their health and well-being.

He will also discuss how women are more likely than men to be affected by the effects of climate change Read the Entire Article
