Lauren Sã¡Nchez Announces Ai Climate Challenge

"By bringing together brilliant minds across fields, we may be able to invent new ways forward."

So says Jeff Bezos in announcing the Bezos Earth Fund's $100 million AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge, which aims to harness the power of artificial intelligence to solve environmental problems.

"AI may have the potential to solve some of our biggest problems, and we're calling on the planet's brightest problem solvers to bring their visionary ideas to the table," Vice Chair Lauren S'nchez says in a video.

The Bezos Earth Fund will award up to $100 million in grants in two stages, with up to 30 seed grants of up to $2 million going to projects in three key areas: sustainable proteins, biodiversity conservation, and power grid optimization.

The applications will open in May 2024, and winners will be announced in September.

The applications will be evaluated by a panel of experts, and winners will be offered mentorship and access to cutting-edge technology.

In the second phase, successful applicants will be able to apply for grants of up to $2 million to develop their concepts into concrete solutions.

"The Grand Challenge represents a bold endeavor to harness innovation in the service of environmental conservation," Bezos says in a press release.
