Climate change is already taking a heavy toll on the Asia-Pacific region, with rising sea levels, extreme weather, and resulting food shortages, per a new report from the UN's Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
In fact, the region is home to "the highest number of people most vulnerable to climate shocks on the other," per the report, which calls for "Transformative solutions which address the impacts of climate change on food security and poverty alleviation," including through innovation and entrepreneurship.
"From green technology and climate-smart practices to women and youth-led entrepreneurship, innovative solutions are sprouting across the region," the report says, noting that the region is now "a hotbed for environmental and social entrepreneurship."
The report notes that innovations include carbon capture, water purification, and waste management solutions, as well as "climate-smart agriculture" practices that reduce seed and water losses and use less fertilizer and pesticides.
But there's more: Per the report, women and youth entrepreneurship is on the rise in the region, with initiatives such as the AGREA Agricultural Communities International Foundation "driving tangible change in the wake of climate change, poverty, and hunger challenges."
