Mayor Bass and Trade Minister of Finland Tavio Sign First-Of-Its-Kind Letter of Intent ...

The mayor of Los Angeles and the prime minister of Finland have signed a letter of intent to work together to fight climate change, the Los Angeles Times reports.

"With the current climate crisis, we know we need to take bold action," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said at a press conference Tuesday.

"This Letter of Intent lays the foundation for mutually beneficial cooperation between Finland and the City of Los Angeles, and is a concrete step towards achieving our carbon neutrality goals."

According to a press release, the two cities aim to be carbon neutral by 2050 or earlier and to be 100% clean energy by 2035.

"Finland is known as a pioneer of digital technology, smart mobility, and clean energy solutions," Bass said at the press conference.

"We have a lot to offer to and learn from each other."

The two cities plan to work together in four areas: smart and green ports, sustainable mobility, transit, and renewable energy and grid Resiliency.

"The dialogue between the City of Los Angeles and Finland can also contribute positively to broader international climate cooperation," the press release states.

Finland's minister of foreign trade and development calls the agreement "historic," the New York Times reports.
