Bosch Home Comfort Launches Ids Ultra Cold Climate Heat Pump

A Massachusetts company has become the first to take part in the Department of Energy's Cold Climate Challenge, which aims to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

Bosch's IDS Ultra cold-climate heat pump is designed to draw heat from the air in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit, the company says in a press release.

That's far below the government's goal of warming things up to 42% by 2050, but it's a step in the right direction.

"Historically, the colder it is outside, the harder it is for heat pumps to extract heat from the air," says Bosch's marketing director.

"The IDS Ultra is the first cold climate heat pump to market that meets these criteria from the DOE Challenge," he adds.
