A single-cell RNA sequencing system called Fluent BioSciences has been in use for more than a decade to identify and sequence DNA for a wide range of applications, from cancer research to personalized medicine, and it's now being used by a new company called 7 Traits Genomics to do the same for its own customers, reports the Boston Globe.

Fluent BioSciences was founded by Barb Pearlman in 1997 and went on to become one of the largest women-owned businesses in Massachusetts, according to the Boston Business Journal's 2024 ranking of the state's largest women-owned businesses.

Now, 7 Traits Genomics is "following a similar path, leveraging Fluent's powerful platform as it launches its own precision genomics services from the same space," Pearlman says in a press release from Cambridge Scientific, the incubator lab where Fluent BioSciences got its start.

7 Traits Genomics CEO Dustin Poole calls the move a "game-changer," one that "allowed us to hit the ground running and serve clients on day onea dream scenario for any startup."
