Southern California's biggest gas-distribution company has been awarded the Climate Registry's prestigious Organizational Leadership Award for its "bold goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change," the Los Angeles Times reports.
"The utility is being recognized not only for its own emissions reduction goals, but also for exemplifying leadership in its internal response to climate change and the engagement of its peers, partners, and supply chain," says Amy Holm, executive director of California Gas Company.
According to a press release, the company's ASPIRE 2045 sustainability strategy sets "bold goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and addressing climate change."
The strategy calls for a 20% reduction in fugitive and vented methane emissions from 2015 levels by 2025, a 40% reduction by 2030, and a 100% zero-emissions vehicle fleet by 2035.
"SoCalGas exemplifies leadership in sustainability with their impressive achievements in methane emissions reduction, energy efficiency programs, renewable natural gas, clean fleet management, and groundbreaking carbon management projects," says Malik Jawaad Malik, the company's sustainability officer.
In addition to meeting the state's emissions reduction goals, the company is also working to replace 20% of its traditional natural gas supply with renewable natural gas by 2045, Reuters reports. Read the Entire Article
