When Seasons Center in Sioux Center, Iowa, opens its doors in August, it will include a waiting area that's both "trauma-sensitive" and "culturally responsive," per a press release.

The waiting area, which will be funded with a $1,000 grant from the Sioux Center Community Foundation, will include "a more trauma-sensitive, culturally responsive, and age-appropriate waiting area" with "updated seating, sensory toys for children, and storage options that will create a more trauma-sensitive, culturally responsive, and age-appropriate waiting area," per the release.

It will also include a calming area for kids to "relax, reset, or regroup when they are feeling strong emotions from their therapy session, while they wait for their session, or while they wait for family members who may be in a session," per the press release.

"Current research identifies the importance of creating trauma-informed physical environments where behavioral health services are provided," Sarah Heinrichs-rm, VP of Program Development & Specialized Services at Seasons Center, says in the release.

"We want clients and their families to feel welcome and comfortable with the hope of improving the likelihood that those who need services will access them."
