The Philippines' Masungi Geopark Project has been awarded the " biosphere sustainability award" at the 2024 Asia Pacific Social Innovation Partnership Awards in Taiwan.
The award "underscores the connection between a thriving natural environment and the well-being of the humanity," the foundation said in a statement, per the Philadelphia Star.
The project, which has been in the works for 25 years, includes 2,700 hectares of land in the Rizal region of the Philippines.
The limestone formations that make up the park are home to hundreds of species of plants and animals.
"Despite 25 years of relentless efforts to rejuvenate this vital ecosystem, the surrounding mountains remain imperiled by widespread deforestation, quarrying interests, and inadequate environmental enforcement, compounded by systemic and political challenges for conservation," the foundation said.
The award "inspired communities worldwide to embrace a harmonious coexistence with nature," the foundation said. Read the Entire Article
