The Carnegie Mellon University's annual Undergraduate Research Symposium is known as the "Meeting of the Minds," and this year's theme was "Water Quality: Disparities in Drinking Water Quality in Alaska."
Students presented their research on a wide range of topics, from rainwater harvesting to combating citrus greening, but it was a senior who took home the top prize, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Isabella Krisky's "Equity in Alaskan Water Quality" study looked at arsenic levels in the water of various Alaskan boroughs, and found that some communities had higher arsenic levels than others, while others had lower levels.
Krisky is now planning to complete a master's program and gain fieldwork experience before deciding whether to pursue a PhD, reports Carnegie Mellon News. Read the Entire Article
