India and Sweden are teaming up to help the world's steel, cement, and construction industries cut their greenhouse-gas emissions by 50% by 2030, the Guardian reports.
According to a press release, the partnership, called the India-Sweden Industry Transition Partnership, is "designed to deliver concrete results by COP30 in 2025."
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the partnership at the UN climate talks in Poland last week.
"We have to collaborate to strengthen relevant institutions and policy frameworks, co-develop research, and mobilize investments in the transition," says Kristersson.
India's steel, cement, and construction industries produce around 15% of the world's greenhouse-gas emissions, the Guardian reports.
According to the press release, the partnership aims to use "cutting-edge technology" to help the industries produce zero-emissions products.
