One of the nation's top music schools has a new leader.
Kevin Sanders, director of the Rudi E.
Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis, will take over as dean of the Baylor University School of Music in 2024, Baylor University announced Tuesday.
"I am impressed with his innovative thinking and his accomplishments at the University of Memphis," Baylor University Provost Nancy Brickhouse says in a press release.
"He is an accomplished leader and a talented musician who is drawn to Baylor by our dual commitment to faith and renowned music performance programs."
Sanders, a classically trained musician and former tubist, has led the Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis since January 2020.
Under his direction, the school opened an 82,000-square-foot facility featuring state-of-the-art recording studios, large rehearsal spaces, and a 900-seat concert hall.
He also established the School's Student Success Center, a centralized office for students to receive professional advising, career services, and improved access to university resources.
Prior to that, he served as an undergraduate music therapy major and as the catalyst for new academic programs, including an undergraduate music therapy major.
