One of the world's largest telecommunications companies has announced a plan to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2030, the BBC reports.
According to a press release, Telef ? 'nica's "Climate Action Plan" was approved by the company's board of directors and outlines the company's plans to reduce its emissions by 7.2%, to 2,383 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, by 2022.
Telef ? 'nica says it has already hit the 2030 target eight years ahead of schedule.
The company says it plans to reach net zero emissions by 2040.
"Our industry, the telecommunications sector, is an indispensable ally in curbing climate change,"Maya Ormazabal, Telef ? 'nica's director of environment and human rights, says in the press release.
