So says Jason Lam Chun-ho of City University of Hong Kong, who's won the university's Teaching Excellence Award with Alvin Leung Chun-man, an associate head in the department of information systems.
The awardwhich recognizes outstanding teachers and promotes best teaching practicescomes with a cash prize of about $140,000, a grant of about $150,000, and an online peer-assisted learning platform that encourages students to share their learning outcomes, reports the South China Morning Post.
Lam, a professor in the energy and environment department, has been using virtual reality to help students better understand climate change, per a university press release.
He's developed a series of VR field trips that allow students to "immerse themselves in the devastating impacts of extreme weather worldwide and venturing into the depths of the ocean to witness coral bleaching," per the press release.
He's also made teaching materials youth-friendly, using memes to illustrate climate change's link to sustainable development.
